Ascent Trip ReportThis was a failure.
The plan was to drive up to the trailhead on Friday night and camp overnight next to it.
I have to admit, we weren't 100% prepared with directions other than what was posted on summitpost.org. We drove on 101 from Bay Area, then 58-East, then Right on Soda Lake Rd for 25+ miles (We turned around twice and hit a rabbit before finding the correct turn at the BLM sign).
~4 miles later we ended up at an abandoned ranch. According to the sign we saw (and the reports we read), another 3 miles would have led us to the trailhead. Well, we drove for close to 5 miles in the dark until finally hitting a fork. There were NO SIGNS at all indicating the start of a trailhead. We thought we were in the wrong place so we turned around and parked at the Selby Campground. We then hiked up for several miles uphill to the same fork and camped there.
In the morning, we headed off for the trailhead, but had to turn around midday due to lack of water.
We'll get this one next time.
