Ascent Trip Report

Nancy LaBaff, Wayne Gray, Ken Hodges, Tracy and I hiked at Sawteeth and Gothics via Pyramid on Oct 2nd 2011. Sawteeth and Gothics were my 45th and 46th summit in ADK to complete the list. It was 90% chance of rain + Thunders as weather forecast and I was a bit scary about Thunders. When we started hiking, it was pouring, so I wore the ticker rain jacket. I even wore fleece later on. However, rain stopped eventually and there was almost no rain all day long. Since it was lower temp, it became good day to hike. Although it wasn't sunny, I can't expect better than that weather when forecast wasn't really good. Before hiking up to Sawteeth, we stopped by Rainbow Waterfalls which was really spectacular. From the col toward Pyramid was steep and some rock scrambling were required. From Pyramid to Gothics was kind of short distance up and it was relatively easy. At the summit of Gothics, we had champagne, cheese and salami which sounds like our every day - Corsican hiking foods. Nancy gave me ADK 46R patch and sign "I AM A 46'R". We took a lot of pictures over there, then, hiked out on Beaver Meadow Trail (Aka Gothics via Lake Road). Rocks were all wet and we had to carefully hike in/out. I was very happy that the 4 of my friends join my hike even when weather didn't really cooperate. I successfully completed 3 mountains hike on 10/3 and I became 46er. I also completed NE(NorthEast)115 4K list as well. Oh, I need to mention that near the Gothics summit, I saw a lot of ices on 10/2/2011!! It's amazing! Also when we hiked out on Beaver Meadow Trail, I saw huge damage by Irene Tropical Storm. So many blow down trees, a portion of trail is completely washed out and gone. I just felt "wow..." and I couldn't say anything for a while.
