Ascent Trip ReportStarted at the West Glacier Trailhead in Juneau, Ak with my sister. Hike the 3+ miles up the trail to a rocky outcrop, gained the Mendenhall Glacier and crossed the glacier to the base of Mount Wrather. The lower slopes (1900-2400') of the peak are a little bit of an alder thrash, once above the brush there are beautiful alpine slopes to hike up. We camped at about 4500' due east of Sharks Fin (4784'). The Next morning we ascended the upper snow covered glacier negotiating large crevasses and snow bridges to the rocky summit pyramid. A fun fourth class exposed scramble to the summit is the final challenge. The views from the summit are awesome! We down climbed most of the rock and made one rappel back onto the glacier and followed our route of ascent back to the trailhead.
