Ascent Trip Report

An overall moderate bushwack westbound ...... 1.4 miles, 1h20 minutes RT.

We came back to this Highpoint for the second time ..... this time we approached it from the east side "successfully", thanks to the gentleman who gave me permission to walk his land.

We approached the TH from the south ....... from I395, exit 82 we traveled a short distance west on State Hwy 642 to Huntington Avenue (next to the Courtyard Marriot) on the right. We turned right on Huntington (becomes Plain Hill Road) and drove north 3.32 miles and parked the car, on the left is a pond which is owned by the farm just before the pond (as you drive north Plain Hill Road makes a sharp jog left/right, .22 miles before the pond).
This pond was my TH, the summit is at 275 degree Compass Line (my "Bushwack Line"), estimated at .75 miles.

I first went to the farm house for permission and the owner, David Ayres (?? spelling), an ex pilot for Eastern Air Lines, had no trouble with me walking his property .... "as long as he's asked".

I left my TH on Plain Hill Road along the north side of the wooden fence before the pond to the western property line of the farm house at about 150 yards where the ground drops to a low/wet boggy area with a lot of dense brush full of thorns. This is the worst section of the bushwack ( perhaps 200 yards)..... The boggy area can be avoided (not the thorns) by staying left along the western property line for a few hundred yards and then working your way back to the "Bushwack Line".
Once across the boggy area the ground starts its climb in a very open deciduous forest, open floor with little undergrowth, a number of small ups/downs, the only obstacles are a rock ledge that is easily skirted and another short wet/boggy area with thorns not long before the summit, Always stay with the "Bushwack Line" and the highground. Except for the 2 boggy areas, this is an easy bushwack.

At the summit area I walked around to 3 areas of highground before deciding on my HP ...... a fairly open area with 3 huge rocks and a number of small ones, no views, I chose my HP at GPS 41.59995,-72.11633 (exactly as per PB ??).
