Ascent Trip ReportA walk on a sand dune bluff ....... 200 yards, 20 minutes RT.
After visiting the historic town of Plymouth we made our way to Cape Cod and drove Hwy 6 all the way to the top end of the Cape at Provincetown, on the way we decided to take in this highpoint ..... located right on the sand dune bluff of the eastcoast in the Truro area.
From the entrance of "Cape Cod National Seashore Park Service" in Eastham we drove north on Hwy 6 for 13.9 miles to a right turn on Long Pond Road in Truro, then 1.6 miles (staying left at .2 miles) to its dead-end at a large parking ..... this is the top of the bluff, the ocean is down below. At .2 miles before this parking there is a small road on the left, signed Uncle Irv's Way. Follow this road (pavement and dirt), always staying right, .4 miles to its end at 2 private houses on top of the sand dune bluff. There was no one home.
The summit is to the north of the houses, so I parked here and walked north (left of the houses) on the sand dunes (low brush and sand) 100 yards to my chose HP with GPS reading of 42.02317,-70.04144. The PB coordinates puts the spot at a lower elevation.
***** It must be noted that the "eroding bluff" will one day erase this highpoint.
After dinner we went to see the movie "Moneyball" in Wellfleet, before overnighting at the Nickerson State Park Campground west of Orleans.
