Ascent Trip Report

Philmont Rayado Crew 619-RM-5

June 27: From Santa Claus (8500') down Bear Canyon to Cimarron River crossing (7200'), climb through Visto Grande and Upper Bench (8180'), continue southeast to 7350'. Climb Deer Lake Mesa and pass Devils Wash Basin (8600'). Take Ute Park Pass (8260') and continue west to Sawmill (9400').
June 28: Layover at Sawmill.
June 29: East down Sawmill Canyon to Ute Gulch (7900') then south to Window Rock (8300'), then further to Cimarroncito Reservoir (7720') and west to Cyphers Mine (9320').
June 30: Climbed to Thunder Ridge (10650'), down to a trail work site, back up to the ridge and back down to Cyphers Mine, then around to Lambert's Mine Camp (8940').
July 1: Follow trail up to Comanche Pass then east, bushwhacking to top of Bear Mountain. Then back to trail, follow to Black Mountain and descend to Black Mountain Camp (8960'). Downstream along the North Fork Urraca then south to Miners Park (8000').

Trip continues to Black Mountain.
