Ascent Trip ReportOn a family holiday to Tirol we were staying in Buchau, directly under the Rofangebirge. I took a couple of hours out at nap time to take the cable car up to the mountain above town (16 Euros return, every 15 minutes from 0900 to 1700, takes 10 minutes). From the top station a good path leads up to the summit of Hochiss the highpoint of the range. The route is well signposted and needs little description. It is occasionally stony underfoot but never too steep or difficult. I was able to take it a fast walk / slow jog and do the return trip in just over an hour.
The weather was fantastic and the air very clear in autumn giving exceptionally beautiful and wide ranging views. The galciated peaks of the main Alpine chain to the south drew the eye at first (main groups from left to right were Grossglockner, Grossvenediger, Olperer and Wildspitze). In the east I could see the Wilder and Zahmer Kaisers where I had been on Elmauer Halt 2 days before along with a host of lower peaks towards Germany. The prominent Guffertspitze showed well to the north and the steep rocky limestone peaks of the Karwendelgebirge to the west, as far as the Bikkarspitze.
I returned quickly to the hotel and the family well pleased with my quick ascent.
