Ascent Trip Report

The bus ride to get to Thorsmork is half the adventure as many unbridged glacier rivers must be crossed to get there (only possible to get there by special bus or high clearance 4x4). Thorsmork is a truly awesome place, a forested area situated in between 3 glaciers.

The hike up Valahnukur is a pretty easy one. I don't recall specific details of the hike as I am entering this 5 years later. But in Iceland, you are very soon above the tree line, and at the summit, the panoramic 360 degree views are just simply some of the most outstanding I have ever seen. Still in my beginnings as a hiker at that point, but still one of my most memorable.
