Ascent Trip ReportArrived at the parking lot for the trailhead on Guanella Pass when it was still dark outside. We started our hike in the cold (31 degrees) right at dawn. About 15 minutes into our hike on the West Slopes we encountered three moose. They were right off the trail and the bull moose kept staring us down. We stood still for about a half hour, taking some pics when the moose weren't looking. About a mile later the trail got steeper and then somewhere around 13,000 feet there was snow. My two friends turned back for the car when the one started feeling the altitude, but I reached the summit on my own around 10:20 am. I enjoyed the summit for about 10 minutes and then began my descent. Arrived back to the car around 12:40.
