Ascent Trip ReportThis was my 5th visit to the highest point in North Carolina, but it was the first time to visit the new summit tower. It makes me feel really old to discover that the summit towers on state highpoints are being replaced during my lifetime! From here my wife, Geri, and I hiked the Deep Gap Trail north all the way to Potato Hill in order to peakbag several of the state's highest named summit points (Mount Craig, Big Tom, Balsam Cone, Cattail Peak and Potato Hill) in a single day.
