Ascent Trip ReportDespite being a state park, Chimney Rock has a rather high entrance fee of $15 per person (2011). My wife, Geri, and I took full advantage of the cost and visited every attraction available. This included a hike to Hickory Nut Falls, a visit to Moonshiner's Cave, a climb to the highest point allowed at Exclamation Point (a climb of over 800 steps) and, of course, an ascent of Chimney Rock. The vistas from the many overlooks on this mountain are quite impressive. My biggest regret is that tourists are not allowed to climb past Exclamation Point, even though a good trail exists. I would have liked to have reached the highest point on the entire mountain mass, but in 2011 it was not allowed. We had to settle on Chimney Rock alone.
