Ascent Trip Report

Matt and I started off where the Subaru would not travel further. We took the standard route up the peak as described in Bob Sumner's book via New York Canyon Rd & Poison Spring. As we approached the final summit pyramid, who did we see? John Ide. We weren't sure if he was going to join us or not as he didn't camp at the TH with us the night before. Once he caught up, we found out that he stayed at the petroglyph site to the west of Eureka, NV. We all hiked to the summit and back to Matt's car together. John was parked about a mile further down, so we gave him a lift and discussed options for the next day. Unfortunately the weather was no cooperating with us and we didn't want to risk driving to Ruby Dome and getting skunked by lightning. We decided to head for North Schell instead as it is a shorter hike.
