Ascent Trip ReportSeptember 10, 2011 The goal for the day is Mt. Isolation and since it is a gorgeous day, I chose to do it the hard way, up and over the 5500 foot Boott Spur and down to the 4,004 foot Mt. Isolation. The Red Goat and Lil-Yeti dropped me off at the Pinkham Notch visitor center and I headed up the Boott Spur Trail at 10:15. I would meet up with them later in the day at the Glen Boulder. It was a zoo at the visitor center, at 10am the lots were full and many cars lined the road already. I assume most were headed toward Mt. Washington because once I headed up the Boott Spur trail I encountered only a handful of hikers before I reached the summit of Boott Spur at 12:20. What a great hike and gorgeous views above tree line, spectacular. Took a few minutes to enjoy the vastness and then headed south on the Davis Path and ‘down’ to Mt. Isolation. Really enjoyed the Davis Path following the many cairns above tree line and then into the woods. Again it was pretty quiet along the way to isolation, but at the summit there were quite a few fellow hikers. Enjoyed the views of Mt. Washington in the distance while eating lunch and then headed back around 2:25. I reached the Glen Boulder trail at 3:35. I am beginning to really appreciate the mountain views in late afternoon as the sun gets lower in the sky. There are some really steep spots just before the boulder and then some more just after the boulder. When I arrived at Glen Boulder the sun was quite low and if you over-exposed the picture it looks like the boulder was glowing and the light threw my shadow on it. Pretty cool picture that is for sure. Caught up with the Red Goat and we made our way back to the parking where Lil-Yeti was resting after a wonderful day in the mountains! Start, Boott Spur Trail: 10:15am Summit Boott Spur: 12:20 Summit Mt. Isolation: 1:55pm Left Isolation: 2:25pm Glen Boulder: 4:30pm End Glen Boulder Trail: 5:30
