Ascent Trip Report

I started this hike about a year ago with a large group of county highpointers, but turned back after a mile or two with nasty blisters from the previous day's climb of Snow Valley Peak. I waited for everyone to return, donned tennis shoes, and joined them for the Placer Co., CA liner near the state line. The 2010 ascent was apparently exceptionally windy.

This ascent found the summit with very little in the way of wind. It was probably more enjoyable in these conditions, but as soon as I heard the first clap of thunder from the summit I hightailed it down, along with the 6 other people there. The thunder lasted well into the return hike and I saw people still headed up the Mt. Rose trail - hopefully they turned back. Or got lucky.

Great mountain, nice hike, very crowded trails on an early September Saturday.
