Ascent Trip Report

We made an early morning ascent before flying out of Basel, the day after our Piz Lagrev and Grand Ballon ascents.

The trail head is a large car park (€4 in 2011) at xxx (access off main road at xxx). Trails start at the top LH corner of the two parking areas. You soon encounter a trail sign board but the route to the first summit is well signposted (Feldburgsturm - the obvious tower) with good trails. The trail leads to a roughly constructed tower (would make a good climbing wall!). From here the highest summit can be seen 1.6km further away - an easy stroll, with a dip at xxx and a xxx ascent. There is a tall modern comms tower; the natural high point is within the compound of the weather radar building a little further on; it also has a covered reservoir and a slightly lower pillar which appears to be a customised trig pillar. Access is easy but forbidden; for the less fussy bagger there is an artificial platform of equal height, with a viewfinder.

All this had taken a fair bit longer than the drive-up expected from the Summitpost page so we jogged back down to return the hire car.
