Ascent Trip ReportWow!!! This trip had it all! It started off with some nice class 3-4 climbing up the east end of the ridge (with careful route selection to avoid many cliff faces). Then there was brutally steep ridge walking with a little challenging routefinding trying to avoid unnecessary elevation gain until we made the main (north-south) crest near the summit of peak 10,483'. Above 8,500', we kept mostly to the north of the ridge and it worked well for us. Right before the peak (around 10,300'), we headed south to get to the ridge, which was rocky at that point, but stable and offered the best route.
Once past the summit of peak 10,483' (we passed it slightly to the south), Lori went high, bagging the summit of peak 10,666' while I skirted the southeast side, but still gained over 100' I needed to give back by the far saddle. From there, it was an easy 2 miles along the top of the crest to the summit.
The views from the summit and much of the final ridge are beyond my ability to describe. Between those views and the hard work needed to get there, this is one of the most rewarding peaks I have ever done.
On the way back, largely because I lacked my GPS and was therefore concerned about cliffing out while downclimbing, we decided to descend into the minor canyon just north of Cove Canyon (the one that begins just north of point 8,230'), and thus got to enjoy some non-technical canyoneering as well. Other than one brief class 3 dryfall, it was all class 1-2. Because there was loose dirt and rock, I would not recommend that as an ascent route.
