Ascent of Le Grand Veymont on 2011-08-27
|Date:||Saturday, August 27, 2011|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||Le Grand Veymont|
| Elevation:||2340 m / 7680 ft|
Ascent Trip ReportWe parked at La Coche, accessible via a minor road east of the D518 between St-Agnan-en-Vercors and Rousset-en-Vercors. From there we walked pretty much due east along established but variably signposted tracks to Pré Grandu, Pichet, and La Chau to the col of Pas de la Ville. From there it was up the north ridge of Le Grand Veymont (easy but initially mildly exposed and loose under foot) to the summit. Searched for the IGN trig but couldn't find it; perhaps under the cairn or one of the windshelters. Atmospheric swirling cloud with a base of 2000-2200 metres, so views limited but fleetingly very impressive. Returned the same way. 16km round trip, 6 hours total, but our family hikes are very leisurely. The Vercors is a beautiful sparsely populated heavily forested limestone region and I'd love to come back to do the GR91 traverse of the area.
