Ascent Trip ReportAccess to Hanging Hills is from Hubbard Park in Meriden. The park is entered from W Main St. The entrance is W of the sign identifying the park. Mirror Lake is readily apparent from this point.
After entering the park and passing along the W and N sides of the lake, I headed straight through a 4-way intersection (where a large parking lot is on the far L corner). A few hundred feet later I turned L at a T-intersection (actually you could proceed straight ahead, but it's just a driveway) and came to a locked gate just before the road passes under I-691. A sign on the gate said it is open only from 10:00 AM to 4:45 PM. It was after this time, so I had no choice but to return the next morning.
Zero your odometer at the gate and proceed under I-691. The road proceeds N along the E side of Merimere Reservoir. At 1.3 miles I turned L (W) across the dam where the road straight ahead is gated. At 2.7 miles I went R at a fork. At 3.1 miles I parked in a lot near a communications complex.
A trail heads 200 yards S from the parking lot to the highest ground, which is in some slabs.
