Ascent Trip ReportMount Moosilauke is one of my favorite mountains with a tradition that goes back to my college years. We are going to start at the Dartmouth Outing Club lodge at the Southern base of the mountain. We will hike up the Gorge Brook Trail to the Summit, then descend via the Carriage Road till we intersect with the Snapper Trail and back to the base lodge. The Carriage Road is the site of the first U.S. Intercollegiate Ski Race back in the early 1900's. I'm guessing that the weather should be better this month!
You should be prepared for a long day of hiking - approximately 8 miles. Moosilauke at 4800 feet is the largest 4000 footer West of Franconia Notch and because of its size - usually has higher winds and changeable weather.
We will have a car pool at LL Bean in Concord NH at 7 AM. Our travel will be up Route 93 to Exit 26 near Plymouth. We will travel Route 25 through Warren over to Route 118 that will bring us to the base of the auto road. We will travel several miles up the auto road to the Base Lodge.
