Ascent Trip ReportHiking from the Big Hollow Road trailhead, my nephew and I made a pleasant trek to the summit of Blackhead, despite the nearly 1,200 feet of elevation gain in the last .9 miles on Batavia Kill. Notwithstanding the unrelenting nature of the elevation gain (particularly as the first 1.6 miles or so of the trail is largely flat), the hike was quite interesting and the array of plant life and rock formations made this an enjoyable excursion. We summited Blackhead in approximately 2 hrs, 45 minutes. Given cloud cover shrouding the summit, we opted NOT to go slightly east for what are supposed to be impressive views. We DID continue on to complete the rest of the Blackhead Range (Black Dome, Thomas Cole, etc.)...
