Ascent Trip ReportMt Lewis is a drive up on a good road and these are the directions. From Exit 233 in Battle Mountain on I-80, go to the south side of I-80, take the first left on an unsigned road at the south end of the I-80 bridge and zero your odometer. The road makes about a 45 degree turn in a mile or so and then heads very stright south. At 4.2 miles the pavement ends, at 9.4 pass a ranch on the right, at 9.5 go straight, and at 14.5 take a left turn at an unsigned intersection towards the mountain. At 16.6 stay right at the entrance to Horse Canyon and at 16.7 miles there is a Weed Control sign on the right. This is a popular drive on a wide good road all the way to the summit. Be prepared to meet traffic coming downhill. At 26.4 miles I arrived at the Doppler Radar facility near the summit. It has the big white dome that looks like Paul Bunyan's golf ball.
The summit is on a rocky outcropping about .5 mile to the east. Drive back down the road .3 mile and take the small road to the left leading out to the high point. Stay right at the fork and then I parked near the summit. I climbed the ladders up to the comm building on the summit and found 2 witness markers, but no benchmark.
Great views from the summit.
