Ascent Trip ReportWe started hiking by headlamp at 3:00 AM, but relied on moonlight alone once we cleared the treeline. We made it to the Boulderfield / Keyhole area in time for sunrise, which was absolutely spectacular. The trough was more fun than expected, as we chose our own route up the numerous slabs and cracks. After clearing the boulder at the top, the first view of the Narrows definitely made us more alert. The exposure was not nearly as bad as pictures make it out to be. Before long we were working our way up the Homestretch and on the summit by 8:00. We spent an hour on the top, and at one point had it all to ourselves. On the way back, we managed to take some great pictures of the Diamond, since we missed the view near Chasm Lake in the dark. By 1:00 we had reached the car and stopped for a much needed coffee and lunch in Allenspark.
