Ascent Trip Report

Drove Scout Mountain road to the saddle between Scout and Old Tom, then southerly on the mapped jeep road (probably further than I should have for safety reasons). The walk to the summit was on an ATV track to almost the top of peak 8630, then class 2 to the top.

My GPS track is (mostly) based on my upward route. I went over the subsummits on the way down, as the chance of lightning had passed and it seemed easier than the sidehill traverses I used on the way up.

I tried to drive to the top of Scout on my way out, but it's gated about 250 vertical feet below the top. That section of the road is also much rougher than the section up to the saddle.

Note: The Scout Mountain Road is seasonally locked down low (about 6200') until it has dried out enough for traffic. For example, it did not open until early July in 2011.
