Ascent Trip ReportA road and moderate trail climb from Parador de las Canadas ....... 13km, 4h15 hours RT including all breaks but excluding Montana de Pasajiron.
As I noted in my first TR to Tenerife, my source of information for all the climbs in Teide National Park came from 2 sources: 1) Rother Walking Guide for Tenerife, by Klaus and Annette Wolfspergen. See Trail #47 for Guajara and #44 for Pasajiron. 2) The Spanish Government's Topographic Map for "Teide Parque National", scale 1:25,000 with the accompaning "Trail Guide". For Guajara see Trails #SPN4/SPN5/SPN15 and for Pasajiron #SPN8.
From the TH Parking at Parador de las Canadas del Teide I walked eastbound on the well used Canadas dirt road (below the Rim), "Trail #SPN4", for 3.1km (40 minutes) to the signed "Trail #SPN5" on the right, where I climbed/snaked my way moderately south to Degollada de Guajara (pass)(1.4km, 35 minutes) and a large Park sign with super views both sides of the pass ...... "Trail #SPN8" leaves left on the Caldera Rim for Pasajiron and beyond, while "Trail #SPN15" leaves right for Alto de Guajara.
After a short break I turned right and followed the well-used/moderate #15 westerly to the summit of GUAJARA (2km, 340 meters ascent, 1 hour). I had a super clear day and the rewards were outstanding, perhaps the best views in all of Teide National Park ..... Pico del Teide and the south Caldera Rim dominate the view, the scale is very impressive.
After a good break I descended back to Degollada de Guajara (30 minutes) and continued eastbound on #SPN8 to Montana de Pasajiron (see its TR, the RT taking 1h15 hours) before descending back to the TH.
From Degollada de Guajara I descend back to the road then west to the TH at the Parador in just over 1 hour. The whole RT for the 2 Peaks was 15km, 5h30 hours including all breaks, I returned somewhat zapped from the heat and all the sweating. A lot of people on the trails today.
"FOR ME I TRAVEL NOT TO GO ANYWHERE BUT TO GO."
