Ascent Trip ReportFrom the trail head for Middle Fork Lake I headed west along the West Fork of the Red River where the trail heads south up to the Lake. The fence there includes a real estate co. sign with prominent no vehicles signs and a less prominent no trespassing. I was on private property for about 3/4 of a mile until I bushwhacked up hill onto National Forest land.
I had already done another climb today (11202) that involved over 7 mi. and 1650 feet of elevation gain, so I was not surprised that I ran out of gas about half way up. Indeed, my primary goal had been to scout the route for a possible future ascent. The bushwhack up the slope is quite steep with some iffy footing on several scree fields, but it looks doable. Intermittent use trails suggest other people have used this route up.
