Ascent of Lake Mountain on 2011-08-04| Date: | Thursday, August 4, 2011 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Lake Mountain | | Location: | USA-Pennsylvania | | Elevation: | 2180 ft / 664 m |
Ascent Trip ReportAs usual there was a locked gate at the beginning of the summit road to Lake Mountain with no less than 8 padlocks including a sign that read, "Please Do Not Cut Off Locks." I parked my car and enjoyed a pleasant evening hike of a little over a mile to the summit where I found a fine rock outcrop of large boulders connected with a old iron bridge with missing slats. A summit benchmark is located on the top of this group of boulders. This was one of the few Pennsylvania county highpoints where I really felt like I was able to stand on the true highest point. Unfortunately, no vista is available at the summit due to vegetation, but a short distance to the northeast brings you to the top of Big Boulder ski lift with good views to the north of Big Boulder Lake.
