Ascent of Pikes Peak on 2011-08-13| Others in Party: | Tim Newman | | Date: | Saturday, August 13, 2011 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Pikes Peak | | Location: | USA-Colorado | | Elevation: | 14110 ft / 4300 m |
Ascent Trip ReportThis was a good trail, and a great alternative to driving all the way to the summit. While the details of the hike may seem tame, the fact that it's almost all above 13,000' makes it somewhat challenging.
While one could start this hike from a higher turnout, I recommend starting from Devils Playground as the initial flat mile or so helps one acclimatize, as the final push is rather steep.
