Ascent Trip Report

As far as I can determine, Bald Knob is the 4th highest named summit point in Ohio. It might even be the 3rd highest point because the 2nd highest point, Mount Miserable, a short distance away, is not officially named on any topographic maps that I could find. I parked my car at the closest house located on the southern slopes of Bald Knob. The owner was in the yard and I quickly got permission to cross his land to make the ascent, but he did not actually own Bald Knob itself. He knew that individual, but he lived several miles away and I was allowed to make the climb without having to contact another landowner. There was an overgrown pasture road I was able to follow until I reached the east side of the hill, then I made a direct approach bushwhacking through tall grass and shrubs. I reached a small elongated clearing with an opening to a higher mound a few yards away and I was satisfied I was on the highest point even though I never located the summit benchmark. I was clearly on the western edge of the Knob where it drops fall drastically and the summit ridgeline to the east was definitely quite a bit lower than were I stood.
