Ascent Trip Report

Parked car by cattleguard at Jett Canyon entrance. Hiked up Jett Canyon 4WD road. Jett Creek was still running good and there were at least a dozen crossings with water from 6 inches to a foot deep.
(I was glad for the cool water on the return trip)
In one location the road actually is part of the river bed for a couple hundred feet. I would not recommend driving too far on this road with a vehicle, there are large rocks and brushy areas. It is more of an ATV trail and even then at about 7400ft to 7900ft where I started cross country, the road is severly overgrown with willow trees and brush in places. I lost the road for a short time around 7800ft and had to bushwack and cross the creek to find the road on the opposite side. The road never seems to be more than about 100ft from the creek, the difficulty is knowing what side it is on. Once I left the road, I hiked up a ridgeline heading north, weaving around trees and hiking on rocks and scree to a saddle at 10050ft. From there you can see Toiyabe Dome to the north and I followed an open arcing ridgeline around the northwest sidehilling past point 10522 and point 11144. I continued on to the Southeast Summit about 4 tenths of a mile passed Toiyabe Dome. Could not find any summit registries. The ascent was class I except for a short section of easy Class II to the TD southeast summit. The descent was almost as difficult and required some class II manuevers while traversing the ridgeline from the saddle to the road. I recommend topo maps and a separate pair of shoes for the road hike and plenty of water. It is a long hike. Information below includes trip to Southeast Summit. Gave ascent quality a 7 due to length and vegetation.
