Ascent Trip ReportGarrett Mountain Reservation is a very popular park in Paterson, just south of I-80 and west of NJ-19. Enter the park from either the west or south and drive the main park road which circles one-way counterclockwise. Park opposite the large stone tower, which is reputed to be open some afternoons. Hike uphill to the right rear of the tower and pick up a yellow-blazed trail that goes directly to the summit, about 1/10 mile distant. The view from the top is one of the best, extending from Staten Island, the NYC and nearby NJ skylines, and many many miles north. Beware of cliffs directly below with no guardrails or warning signs, plus the basaltic rock is worn down and slippery.
