Ascent of South Sister on 2011-07-02| Date: | Saturday, July 2, 2011 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | South Sister | | Location: | USA-Oregon | | Elevation: | 10358 ft / 3157 m |
Ascent Trip ReportSimple hike up from Devil's lake. Snow covered the whole way with the main ridge exposed. Showshoes were not necessary, Crampons also were not but would have be worth bringing. Hikers ahead of us broke trail with their crampons so it was like stair stepping for us. Trekking poles were great, yaktracs were helpful. Glissading down the slush cut time to a third for the descent. Windy only on top, the hike was calm.
