Ascent Trip ReportI ascended this peak along the Long Trail, which I picked up at Route 242 south of the Jay Peak ski area entrance. There is a trailhead parking area along the road, at the top of a hill. At first, I stopped in a nearby parking lot at the bottom of a hill, and wasted some time looking for the trailhead that wasn't there.
The ascent begins as a generally easy stroll, but the second half is steeper and requires some climbs or high step-ups over exposed rock. Eventually you have to climb over some pipes that provide water to the ski area snowmaking equipment (I assume), and then you cross a ski run before making the final push to the summit over several more areas of exposed rock. The summit is next to a large building at the top of the gondola and it is idenfied with a survey maker.
The are summit views in all directions. The adjacent mountain called Big Jay looms, and after a short rest I began the trek over to bag that one. From Jay Peak, Big Jay appears high and distant; clearly the hike over would not be easy.
