Ascent Trip ReportAmmonoosuc Ravine Trail was very memorable. Lots of water on the > trail- I'm sure its a sheet of ice when frozen. Serena descended > this trail also- she had to backtrack and retrieve a thermos lid > after summiting. We skipped Monroe- we were feeling good, but the > winds were reported at 50 mph and we wanted all the energy we could > have. > > At the hut, I could see how my plan to take Jewell trail would have > to be scraped if there was high winds and return the same trail. We > all felt great for the summit- the weather was really good. Super > clear vistas. It didn't get super windy until we were .5 miles fro > the summit. We heard the building was open, so there was no > stopping us. We arrived at 1pm and rested for 1 hour. > > we descended Jewell trail- I now question whether its better to > descend Jewell or Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail. The Amm. seemed like > better footing besides for the rock slabs. we chose Jewel because > it was suppose to be easier- but I really hate balancing on big > boulders, that slowed me down. > > Besides for that, We had a great trip. the weather was just right- > and to see that wind was amazing. Considering Lyon and my pace, we > lucked out. lots of breaks, clothing changes, take in the views. > > We got to the parking lot at dusk 5:55 Serena left us a note- she > got back at 3:05.
