Ascent Trip Report

Active logging zone. Beware of logging trucks from about 6am-3pm; I dodged two on the drive up (one was pretty hairy) and followed one down the tightest parts on the drive out.

I rousted a large elk off the summit. Even for an elk, that thing was huge!

The road shown on the 1984 USGS map looping around the east and north side of the peak (near Blue Lake) no longer goes through. The infamous gate is at about 2700', just about 7 miles in from Hwy 6. Unless you have an ATV or dirtbike, driving much beyond the saddle near the gate couldn't be recommended anyway.
