Ascent Trip ReportDrove up Gardner Canyon road, a good to fair dirt road, from the east in my 4WD Jeep Cherokee. 4WD is probably mandatory to get within a few miles of the high point, as there is a steep section of dirt road not long after passing the sign indicating you are entering BLM land.
To make the climb more sporting we parked at the second switchback a little less than 2 miles from the peak, near a small herd of cows. We started walking up the dirt road, then cross-country on the SSE ridge to the high point among grass and brush. The apparent high point of the range is marked by a large cairn. If one walks 200 feet further north to a secondary bump on the ridge, the Wood benchmark is found.
Back at the car, my Jeep was now covered in muddy spots. The cows had come over and rubbed their muddy muzzles all over the Jeep for some reason, then left to go eat some nearby grass.
