|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Location:||USA-New Hampshire|
| Elevation:||2162 ft / 658 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI approached along Route 123, and parked in the lot on the north side of the road. The parking lot is visible from Route 123, and there is a sign out front that says "Pitcher Mt. Fire Tower".
I began hiking from the north side of the parking lot, next to a large sign and trail register. The trail immediately forks, with a service road branching off to the right and a narrower path continuing straight. I followed the road to the right. I turned left when the road reached a large meadow, and then turned left again after a short ascent along the meadow edge. Just after that point, the fire tower came into view.
I climbed two flights of stairs to the highest accessible level of the tower, and spent a few minutes taking in the impressive view.
I made this a loop hike by following another trail down to the parking lot, which led to the left side of the fork that I encountered at the beginning of the hike. I had to search a little bit to find this other trail while at the summit. It was downslope from the tower, on the opposite side from which I approached; another hiker pointed me in the general direction, and then I found the trail.
You really get a lot of bang for your buck at Pitcher Mountain. The hike is short, and the views are excellent. I was in and out in under 20 minutes, and at least a third of that time was spent at the summit.
