Ascent Trip ReportAfter visiting the Allegany CoHP we drove west on Hwy 417 on our way to the Cattaraugus CoHP, Hartzfelt Mountain is a short detour so we decided to pay a visit. From Olean we picked up Hwy 16 and traveled south 4.1 miles to a left on McDuffy Road followed by an immediate right on Indian Creek Road. At 100 yards we parked on the right, a 4x4 track goes west to the summit area (the track parallels Hwy 16).
I hiked the track west 350 yards to the driveway on the right that goes to the Communication Towers, this is the summit area, a 100 yard long flat height-of-land. The track continues/drops west as a good dirt road and appears to be driveable (I believe it can be accessed from Hwy 16 at a dirt road .3 miles south of McDuffy Road).
From the driveway I walked west 15 yards, turned left (south) in the woods and found my highpoint at 15 yards ...... a small 50 yard long rocky (east-west) outcrop. My GPS read 42.02314, 78.45721.
