Ascent Trip ReportThis was the first time that I hiked Pack Monadnock.
The Wapack Trail section that led to the summit lined the western edge of the mountain. It crosses the auto road and climbs up a rock face, then levels out.
A few rock faces later, there's a lookout at which Temple Mountain and Mount Monadnock are visible.
The trail winds through more woods and levels out a little bit during the final push to the summit. It makes a sharp turn out to the parking lot.
Pack Monadnock's summit is a miniature Mount Washington; it contains towers, antennas, a parking lot, an auto road, bathrooms, and other buildings and structures. There is a spot where birdwatchers can watch birds, and it makes a good viewpoint. North Pack Monadnock is visible from it, although I mistook it for Temple Mountain.
There is a viewing area where Boston, Massachusetts can be seen on a good day. I couldn't see it because it was hazy.
We thought that the Wapack Trail was kind of steep, so we took the Marion Davis Trail down.
