Ascent Trip ReportA short bushwack ..... 500 yards, 20 minute RT.
I followed Michael Schwartz TR. From southwest of the summit at Tabors Corners (intersection of Wetmore/Tabor Corner Roads) we traveled east on Tabor Corners Road for .37 miles to a left on Dutch Hollow Road then .87 miles to another left on Thunder Mountain Road (signed "private"), this road services numerous private homes.
We drove north on Thunder Mountain Road for .93 miles , staying on the main traveled surface and ignoring all side roads, to its end at a clearing ...... 2 driveways leave this clearing to private cabins, straight ahead and to the left.
Prior to this clearing (about 100 yards) we stopped in at house #7352 (on the left) for permission. The lady, in the large yard tending the horses, told us that this was not her property, she lives next door (up-road) at #7356 and the summit area belongs to the houses at the clearing.
We went to both cabins and no one was home, so, as was the case with Michael, I had a decision to make.
I followed Michael's Line (243 compass) from the cabin to the left, rough tracks and bushwack (fairly open) brought me to the summit area at about 250 yards with very little problem. The rough looking summit has the Hunters Shooting Tower, a large blue plastic tarp, posted signs and a lot of dead fall . Three spots contend for the high ground, I stomped the whole area touching all the spots. I chose my high ground 15 yards south of the Tower in a fern plants, GPS 42.66245, 77.51605. In my rush to get back to the car without being seen, I forgot to look for the BM.
