Ascent Trip ReportAs far as I can determine, Mount Collins is the 15th highest named point in Tennessee. The Appalachian Trail passes directly over the summit of Mount Collins. My wife, Geri, and I hiked over this peak during a sectional hike of the AT in May of 2003. The saddle between Clingmans Dome, Mount Buckley and Mount Love is not low enough to technically call them separate peaks, so this should raise Mount Collins rank as an indivdual high point, but since Mount Buckley and Mount Love are separately "named" points, this lowers Mount Collins elevation rank when measured against other "named" points in Tennessee. This peak can be easily climbed by using the Clingmans Dome trail and then hiking northeast on the AT for less than 2 miles.
