|Date:||Saturday, July 14, 1990|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||13804 ft / 4207 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis was my 48th state highpoint. According to The Highpointer's Club, I was the 33rd individual to reach the highest point in each of the 48 contiguous states. I was joined by my roommate from college, Ken Nevins, and proudly, my 11 year old son, Marshall. This mountain took me two attempts. My first attempt was during July of 1988, but good judgement prevailed and I realized I needed more training before I had the skill to tackle such a big alpine peak. Two years later I returned for this successful summit after I had joined the Kansas City Climbing Club and greatly increased my mountaineering knowledge. I did not complete all 50 state highpoints until 2000 when I climbed the highest points in both Alaska and Hawaii in the same summer.
