Ascent Trip ReportA very good, if strenuous, hike and scramble, with the aid of snowshoes for the upper 500 vertical meters. I went up via the old Arrowsmith trail, from Cameron Lake. This trail is an old-school gruelling switchback climb that takes one from 200 m to about 1000 m above sea level, then it eases off - and then one hits loads of snow in the thinning forest. I left my heavy pack and camping gear at around 1100 by a streamside and did the upper slopes with a light daypack. Very thick, late snowpack on the West Coast this year; I had to contend with up to 10 ft of spring snow in the final portion. Met up with some backcountry skiers who were getting their turns in. Excellent overnight camping in what is a empty, off-the beaten path mountain this time of the year. Summit views rank with the best I've seen, spaning both maritime and mountains.
