Ascent Trip Report

Did the 14ers.com loop of 4 14er summits, starting and ending at Kite Lake.

The Buckskin Creek road was gravel, in pretty good shape, able to drive 20-25mph. Clear parking area with picnic tables and an outhouse at TH. $3 fee for parking.

Began with a road, then steep but well cleared trail to Democrat, Cameron Saddle at 13400. From here, there was 15 minutes of boulder hopping, then steep trail to near the summit, where trail flattened considerably. Lots of signs for trail closures for "restoration". Looks like one of these would have avoided the boulder hop, and may have been the trail as shown on usgs Topo maps.

Back to the saddle, dropping off to the south slightly, found a very good trail all the way to Cameron. The Cameron bypass was closed, so the remaining trail went nearly over the summit. Very flat, but actually summit mabye 50yds West. No marker nor registry.

Nice trail continued West towards Lincoln. Small patch of new? snow drifted in, enough to ski a few turns. Saddle between Cameron and Lincoln flat and smooth, very easy walking. Last few 100 yds to summit of Lincoln were good trail but fairly steep.

Back to just West of the Snowfield on Cameron, trail intersection for Bross. Another wide saddle on the way to Bross. About in the middle, there was a new sign saying "no public access to Mt. Bross". I assumed this was purely a maintanence issue. Found the remaining "trail" to actually be a road, very easy walking.

Descent from Bross was trickier. Quite steep, lots of alternate trails braiding every which way (most being newly signed as closed). Small rocks and gravel often rolled putting me on my butt. Poles were essential.

GPS track showed the entire route to be nearly identical to that available on 14ers.com. Weather was beautiful, mostly clear. Occasion 5 minute bursts of a cold wind, then very calm. A perfect day for hiking. Met a 3 some from Breckenridge, SF, Dallas and a couple from North Carolina.
