Ascent Trip ReportActive Duty Navy & went on an organized military hike up Mt. Fuji.
This was the first time I ever climbed Mt. Fuji as well as the first time I stayed overnight at the 8th Station Hut in order to see the amazing sunrise in the morning from the summit. (As it turned out, I later had a job being a trip leader & guide up Mt. Fuji for many years & summitted at least 20 times over the course of the years.)
I still have the hiking stick with all the station brands burned into it as well as a flag with the Japanese Date: 13 08 19, that you can only get at the summit. '13' is the year of the Nippon emperor period, Heisei, (which would be 2001) & '08' '19' is August 19th.
I remember that it was extremely cold at 0300 in the morning, but that the skies were clear & the sunrise was absolutely amazing.
The descent was overcrowded, but that is to be expected in Japan.
