Ascent Trip ReportSuccessful summit by 13 members of Sierra Club's Desert Peak section, the day after we summited Hayford Peak.
We used the DPS guide. We started at the guide's 2WD starting point, but the road there is definitely now 4WD and high clearance. From there we accidentally walked too far up the 4wd dirt road and missed the NE ridge described in the DPS guide. Rather, we ended up going SW over one ridge point up to and over Pt 2311 Meters, then NE then SW up to the summit. This added some distance and time, but not too bad and all and all a pleasant route up. Brief tough brush only for 50 feet in the creek bed at the onset of the XC. Vegetation for the remainder of the ascent and descent required some thoughtful route picking and occasional ducking but was ok.
The summit itself was far superior to the windy, flat topped and antenna strewn higher neighbor the day before, Hayford Peak. Telescope, Sierras, Area 51 etc.
We descended to the northeast via the DPS route, seeing many petroglyphs on the rocks below the summit.
