Ascent Trip ReportFrom my Pacific Crest Trail journal (www.trailjournals.com/northerner): Shortly after, Special Agent and I reached the side trail for Mt. Jenkins. I took the fanny pack off the top of my pack and headed up. As steep as it was, it felt great to hike without the weight of the pack. Special Agent started slightly ahead of me, and I heard him give a victory yell as I approached the top. After a short final scramble, I too reached the 7921-foot peak. It was very cool. I could see the High Sierras to the north again. They looked much closer than they had on my first glimpse of them. It won't be long now. To the south and west, I could see the land I have crossed in the past few days. Rob (one of my roommates in Big Bear City) left me a very cool quote in the register at the peak:
The Beautiful Lull
The Dangerous Tug
We Get To Feel Small
From High Up Above
And After A Glimpse
Over The Top
The Rest Of The World
Becomes A Gift Shop.
