Ascent of Hot Springs Range High Point on 2011-05-26| Date: | Thursday, May 26, 2011 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Hot Springs Range High Point | | Location: | USA-Nevada | | Elevation: | 6920 ft / 2109 m |
Ascent Trip ReportI approached Hot Springs Range from I-80, exit 194 in Golconda and headed north towards Eden Valley, zero odometer at the I-80 exit. At .5 mile cross railroad tracks and turn left, at 1.8 mile cross another railroad track, at 2.4 mile cross the Humboldt River and the pavement ends. Drive out the scenic Eden Valley Road and be careful of the cows along the road who think the road is theirs and that you are kind of rude for making them move. At 20.5 miles I turned left onto a lesser muddy 2 track road and followed this for .6 mile until I was past the sage brush and could see nothing but grassy slopes all the way to the summit. I parked and hiked the grassy slopes.
Nothing technical about this except to keep from stepping in the numerous badger holes. It looks like you can park anywhere along Eden Valey Road and just hike cross country up to the summit.
