Ascent of Great Blue Hill on 2011-05-24| Date: | Tuesday, May 24, 2011 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Great Blue Hill | | Location: | USA-Massachusetts | | Elevation: | 640 ft / 195 m |
Ascent Trip ReportTo find the trailhead via auto GPS, enter 1940 Canton Av in Greater Boston or Blue Hill Trailside Museum as your destination. There are parking lots on both sides of the museum. I parked in the south lot (closer to I-93) and found the Red Dot trail that leads 0.75 miles to the observation tower and another 300 yards to the weather station. The Red Dot trail looks to be the time-honored route, and is basically a rock-hop. I climbed at dawn in the fog and the trail was slippery. There is a RM inside the fence at the weather station but the actual BM is either lost or buried. I returned via the ski slope.
Round trip just under 2 miles with close to 400 feet of gain.
My 77th COHP and 2nd in Massachusetts.
