Ascent Trip Report

Despite its reputation, the Old Baldy trail really isn't that steep, and it makes a great ascent route. We hit it early, leaving the trailhead at 6:30 AM and had shade all the way to Baldy Saddle aside from a few short isolated stretches.

On the way down, we took the Super trail to see the south side of the mountain. That trail was considerably less maintained and had numerous sections partially overgrown with thorny plants. There was also supposed to be a trail going up Josephine Peak which we would have taken, but that was so overgrown we couldn't find it. Once it rejoined the Old Baldy trail at Josephine Saddle, we took that the rest of the way down.
