Ascent Trip ReportFound a register by John Vitz on the "summit" but I am appreciative of the directions as provided by Ken Jones.
"For Long, the key is to come in from the west. I drove (county?) route 105 south from Vay to Forest Road 2697 (signed, but obscurely), which I followed to Forest Road 2553 (not signed; this is the junction on the right at about 3100’). I followed 2553 to a spot at about 3800’ to 3900’, where it had been bermed. I backed down to a level area and parked. I headed straight uphill – that was a mistake. Instead, follow the road on foot over the berm and uphill until just before you enter an area that was recently logged. Go right cross-country about 100 yards and find a trail/skid road. Turn right and follow a collection of skid roads up the NW ridge to the summit area."
I was able to drive a bit higher than Ken did since the berm was gone that he mentioned. It helps to have a GPS waypoint for this one since the summit is kind of a bare spot on a rounded area.
